PID Control Theory Explained

Overview

Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control is the most common control algorithm used in industry and has been universally accepted in industrial control. The popularity of PID controllers can be attributed partly to their robust performance in a wide range of operating conditions and partly to their functional simplicity, which allows engineers to operate them in a simple, straightforward manner.

Today it’s Ada Lovelace Day

Ada Lovelace Day
Today it’s Ada Lovelace Day, when we celebrate the achievements of women in STEM: science, technology, engineering and maths.

Who was Ada Lovelace?

By Sydney Padua, author of The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace & Babbage.

Ada Lovelace is widely held to have been the first computer programmer. Close friends with inventor Charles Babbage, Lovelace was intrigued by his Analytical Engine and in 1842, she translated a description of it by italian mathematician Luigi Menabrea. Babbage asked her to expand the article, “as she understood [it] so well”, and this was when she wrote several early ‘computer programs’. Ada Lovelace died of cancer at 36, her potential tragically unfulfilled.

Control an insect from your smartphone!

What is the RoboRoach?

The RoboRoach is the world’s first commercially available cyborg! That’s right… A real-life Insect Cyborg! Part cockroach and part machine. This is not a gimmick…  just good ol’ fashion neuroscience, evolution and engineering

Cyborg Insects Mapping Collapsed Buildings

Researchers from North Carolina State University have proposed using swarms of cyborg remote-control cockroaches to map dangerous or uncertain areas like collapsed buildings. Just a few months ago, a team at the same university published research into using Microsoft’s Kinect technology to steer cyborg cockroaches (what they call “biobots”) through a predefined path.

World’s First Robotic Rotary Dairy

As a lover of all things Robotic, and an Ex: “Professional Tit Puller(Dairy Farmer)“. I found this announcement brought back all those sentimental memories of getting up at 5:00 am to milk and again at 6:00pm. And through all weathers, 7 days a week, 12 months of the year!
