Long Range Target Location Using a Laser Sensor

PDF24    Send article as PDF
I began testing my Mindstorms NXT Laser Target Sensor with 40mm P.V.C. Pipe Tubes 50mm Long wrapped with 3M Scotchlite 8910 Retroreflective Silver Fabric. The distance between the Laser Sensor and targets varied from between 1 to 2 Metres in this Test. The Sensor uses a 650nm 5mW (Red) laser module. The Sensor can however reliably detect objects at 2.4m (8′), dependant on ambient light conditions.

NXTCam-v3Love Linux, have a Mindstorms NXT Kit, and your wishing for a Mindsensors NXTCam-v3, that works in Linux!

If you are a Linux user and own a Mindsensor NXTCam, you life has just become a lot easier with aNXTCam. aNXTCam is a native Linux software suite written by Janosch Gräf for the Vision Subsystem v3 for NXT: NXTCam v3.0.

aNXTCam is a subproject of aNXT. It has been developed for configuring the Mindsensors NXTCam on a Linux machine. To my knowledge there is no other software available for Linux platform at this time that gives you complete control over your NXTCam.

NXT Keyboard for Ordering System

I’ve been working on an NXT Keyboard for an Ordering System to use with my LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robot Crane with Ball Sorting Conveyor System, in conjunction with my NXT Line Following Dump Truck. The Keyboard uses 6x RCX type Touch switches connected to my RCX-TouchMux Sensor Multiplexer.

As promised a week or so ago, “too put the New Rotacaster Omni-Wheels through their paces”. They where just what I need for the Line-following Dump Truck I’ve build developing as part of a larger on going project. The Rotacasters defiantly help the Truck negotiate the tight corners on my test Line-following mat.

This is a LEGO Mindstorms NXT Crane which delivers balls to a Coloured Ball Sorting Conveyor System. The Ball Sorting Conveyor System uses RC Servo Motors to control the Conveyor and Sorting Mechanism. A single NXT Brick Controls 4 standard 180° RC Servos in the Sorting mechanism and another is used for the Crane’s Grab. Two Full-Rotation 360° Servos are used to drive the two conveyor belts. The Servo Motors are controlled via Mindsensors NXTServo Controller module.

InThe Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect sensor, is a horizontal bar connected to a small base with a motorized pivot, and is designed to be positioned lengthwise below the video display. The device features an “RGB camera, depth sensor and multi-array microphone running proprietary software”, which provides full-body 3D motion capture, facial recognition, and voice recognition capabilities.

Lego Mindstorms NXT Speech File Collections

I have gathered together some collections of Lego Mindstorms NXT Speech Files which I commonly use with my Robots. All the Speech files are in Lego Mindstorms NXT compressed 8KHz ‘.RSO’ File format, ready to upload to your NXT.

The Number & Measurement set of Speech files are also very handy for debugging purposes as well. They allow you to have an audible output of values which is often more user-friendly than attempting to view the NXT’s LCD or your debug Screen.

I suggest you download a copy of David Baum’s NeXTExplorer shown below, to help download your RSO files to the NXT. Alternatively you can use the standard LEGO Mindstorms NXT-G Software instead.
